“La Zona D’Interesse” è un film del 2023 scritto e diretto da Jonathan Glazer ispirandosi liberamente dal libro di Martin Amis. Il film è interpretato principalmente da Sandra Huller e Christian Friendel e sua volta è ispirato ad eventi reali ed è stato presentato al Festival di Venezia ed ha ricevuto molti elogi dalla sceneggiatura alla regia, il film è stato candidato a cinque premi Oscar vincendo “Il Miglior film Internazionale” e il “Miglior Sonoro”. Jonathan Glazer racconta la storia della famiglia Hoss piuttosto che farne personaggi ispirati e ha condotto delle ricerche specifiche sulla famiglia.

La storia racconta la vita del gerarca nazista Rudolf Hoss e della sua famiglia la quale hanno la loro villa idilliaca proprio vicino al campo di concentramento e al di la del muro si sentono rumori inquietanti di spari, urla il rumore dei treni e delle fornaci

SVILUPPO
Dopo aver completato il lavoro sul film “Under The Skin” ha cominciato il lavoro sulla stesura della sceneggiatura di La Zona D’Interesse notando il libro di Martin Amis “Zone of Interest” rimandone incuriosito. Visitò più volte Auschwitz e rimase colpito dalla residenza degli Hoss che è separata dal solo muro del giardino dal campo di concentramento e collaborò anche con il Museo di Auschwitz e ottenne il permesso di accedere agli archivi dove esaminò le testimonianze dei sopravvissuti che lavoravano per la famiglia Hoss e mettendo insieme tutte le informazioni e compose un ritratto delle persone legate agli eventi.
Jonathan Glazer cercò di fare un film che si differenziò dagli altri film sulla shoah e voleva rendere l’idea non “come qualcosa di sicuro nel passato”, ma una “storia” che è ancora presente. James Wilson anche se aveva riluttanza per le figure naziste era rimasto molto incuriosito dal personaggio
di Rudolf Hoss e dal fatto che Jonathan Glazer volesse dare un volto umano ad un mostro del genere.
Sandra Huller e Christian Friendel lavorarono già insieme nel film “Amour Fou”. La Huller ricevette una copia della sceneggiatura prima di sapere che fosse un film sull’Olocausto e sebbene avesse deciso di non interpretare personaggi nazisti, ma dopo aver conosciuto J. Glazer capi che il regista stava studiando alla “perfezione” su come mettere in scena il nazismo sullo schermo.

THE ZONE OF INTEREST
“The Zone of Interest” is a 2023 film written and directed by Jonathan Glazer, freely inspired by the book by Martin Amis. The film mainly stars Sandra Huller and Christian Friendel and is in turn inspired by real events and was presented at the Venice Film Festival and received much praise from the screenplay to the director, the film was nominated for five Oscars winning “Best International film” and “Best Sound”. Jonathan Glazer tells the story of the Hoss family rather than making them inspirational characters and has done specific research on the family.
PLOT
The story tells the life of the Nazi leader Rudolf Hoss and his family who have their idyllic villa right near the concentration camp and beyond the wall you can hear disturbing sounds of gunshots, the noise of trains and trains screams

DEVELOPMENT
After completing work on the film “Under The Skin” he began work on the screenplay for La Zona D’Interesse, noticing Martin Amis’s book “Zone of Interest” and being intrigued by it. He visited Auschwitz several times and was impressed by the Hoss residence which is separated only by the garden wall from the concentration camp and also collaborated with the Auschwitz Museum and obtained permission to access the archives where he examined the testimonies of survivors who worked for the family Hoss and putting together all the information and composed a portrait of the people associated with the events.
Jonathan Glazer tried to make a film that differed from other films about the Shoah and wanted to make the idea not “as something certain in the past”, but a “story” that is still present. James Wilson, even though he had a reluctance for Nazi figures, was very intrigued by the character
by Rudolf Hoss and the fact that Jonathan Glazer wanted to give a human face to such a monster.
Sandra Huller and Christian Friendel already worked together in the film “Amour Fou”. Huller received a copy of the script before knowing that it was a film about the Holocaust and although she had decided not to portray Nazi characters, but after meeting J. Glazer she understood that the director was studying to “perfection” how to stage the Nazism on the screen.
