E’ il primo capitolo della saga di “The Conjuring”, diretto da James Wang e scritto da Chad e Carey Hayes. Il film richiama i film horror degli anni settanta di molti altri produttori per creare i vari sequel e spin off come: “The Conjuring – Il Caso Enfild” e la Trilogia di Annabelle. E’ un horror sovrannaturale basato su fatti realmente accaduti su uno dei casi più famoso di Ed e Lorraine Warren interpretati da Patrick Wilson e Vera Farmiga
TRAMA
La famiglia Perron nel 1971, Carolyn e Roger, si trasferiscono in un vecchio casolare insieme alle loro cinque figlie: Andrea, Nancy, Christine, Cindy e April. Dopo un po’ la permanenza nella casa cominciano a sentire vari rumori fino ad arrivare al tormento continuo. Non potendo più continuare a vivere in quello stato i due coniugi decidono di rivolgersi a vari medium fra cui Ed e Lorraine Warren
PERSONAGGI PRINCIPALI:

PRODUZIONE
Concezione e Sceneggiatura
La trama era nota anche con il titolo “The Warren file” ispirato alle indagini di Ed e Lorraine Warren, infatti l’idea di questo film venne proprio dallo stesso Ed Warren circa vent’anni prima che iniziasse la produzione del film. Dopo aver esaminato le prime registrazioni dei Warren, DeRosa-Grund, fece una prima stesura di una sceneggiatura e la chiamò “The Cojuring”. Inizialmente non riuscì a trovare una casa di produzione interessata, ma infine vennero acquistati dalla Summit Entertainement che si ritenne soddisfatta della sceneggiatura che nel mese di Giugno 2011 la New Line Cinema, confermò di voler produrre il film la quale diede al progetto a James Wang.
La sceneggiatura originaria prevedeva che veniva scritta dal punto di vista del Perron, mentre i fratelli Chad e Carey Hayes scelsero quella che la vedeva dal punto di vista di tutti i protagonisti: La Famiglia Perron, i coniugi Warren e la “famiglia dei demoni”. Il tema centrale è la fede e di come può portare sollievo quando si può essere spaventati dall’oscurità e con il messaggio che “Dio prevale sempre sul male”
Regia
James Wan voleva tornare a lavorare con un grande studio perché era rimasto affascinato dalla storia e aveva già sentito delle storie dei Warren, decise cosi di rimanere più possibile fedele alla storia raccontata dai Warren anche se apportò alcune modifiche. Il regista prima delle riprese predispose anche un incontro con Lorraine Warren, ma rifiutò di visitare la casa delle vicende narrate in quanto James Wang tendeva a credere a queste storie paranormali.
La regia di James Wan fa uso di inquadrature scorrevoli e bruschi cambi di scena, dove sono caratteristiche le riprese degli interni agli esterni nella casa dei protagonisti con una serie di zoommate. Nelle scene in cui viene ripreso un fantasma, viene ripreso lo sguardo e l’espressione spaventata dell’attore, questa visibilità secondo il regista diventa più paurosa e angosciante
Cast
Vera Farmiga/Lorraine Warren: l’attrice ha ammesso di essersi molto suggestionata dall’esperienza svegliandosi spesso alle 3:07 del mattino, anche dopo la fine della produzione del film. Vera Farmiga prima delle riprese passò del tempo con Lorraine nella sua tenuta in Conneticut, l’attrice rimase molto affascinata dall’legame che c’era tra i coniugi Warren e che si creato poi in seguito con la famiglia Perron
Patrick Wilson/Ed Warren: L’attore ha detto che lui e la Farmiga hanno cercato di interpretare al meglio i due coniugi affinché non risultarono banali. Patrick Wilson si definì con la mente aperta precisando che credeva nella storia narrata che davvero credeva nella buona fede dei Warren che cercavano veramente di aiutare il prossimo
Lily Taylor/Carolyn Perron: l’attrice era molto scettica alle storie di fantasmi pur ammettendo di aver vissuto ogni tanto tali esprienze narrate nel film. L’attrice disse che era amante del genere horror come “L’Esorcista e Rosemary’s Baby” e secondo Lili Taylor; James Wan ricorda molto “Il Braccio delle Legge e L’Esorcista”
Ron Livingston/Roger Perron: Anche lui apprezzo Wan come diede spazio alle varie interpretazioni e anche di girare le varie scene in modo cronologico ed infine elogiò molto la scenografia che spiegò come secondo lui la casa diventi un “personaggio” a se stante
Riprese
Durante le riprese sia i coniugi Warren che Roger Perron visitarono il luogo delle riprese, mentre la moglie preferì stare lontana dal luogo di quegli avvenimenti. Alcuni membri quando visitarono la casa furono travolti da un misterioso movimento d’aria che addirittura Carolyn disse che cadde e si ruppe un’anca e poco dopo nell’hotel dove alloggiava il cast, fu evacuato per un principio d’incendio
Scenografia
La scenografia è curata Julie Berghoff che dopo aver esaminato molti casali, decise di costruire un abitazione infestata da zero, cosi costruì un abitazione di 500 metri quadri su due piani con un paesaggio circostante di un abitazione reale per il quale il direttore della fotografia costruì un ciclorama di 360°. La maggior parte dei luoghi è stato visitato nei tempi della pre- produzione compresa all’attuale abitazione della famiglia Perron.
E’ stato evitato di dipingere le pareti d’intonaco e per rimanere fedeli agl’interni tipici dell’abitazione fu costruita come i classici ripostigli della case della costa orientale degli Stati Uniti arredandola con dei piccoli oggetti d’arredamento seguendo uno stile rudimentale con dei rivestimenti in legno e in pietra. Anche l’albero all’esterno dell’abitazione fu costruito dalla troupe: venne rappresentato come un albero di Pacan di 150 anni come da rappresentare la maledizione in cui giace. La bambola Annabelle per la prima volta fu disegnata da Tony Rosen che era molto vicina a quello reale e il suo vestito progettato da Kristin M. Burke come voluto dal regista e anche se in quel film non è coinvolta in primis era legata ad alcuni casi ai Warren, la versione comune reale era una bambola Raggedy Ann
Fotografia
Il direttore John R. Leonetti spiego che per l’illuminazione usò una tavolozza di colori base naturali, mentre per la cantina usarono una lampada di 250 watt oltre ai fiammiferi inoltre è’ caratterizzato l’uso di uno zoom per creare suspense tipico degli anni ’70. Nella realtà i Warren giravano i loro filmati in 8 mm mentre il regista fece usare ai personaggi una 16 mm per poter essere meglio proiettato negli spazi

THE CONJURING
It is the first chapter of the “The Conjuring” saga, directed by James Wang and written by Chad and Carey Hayes. The film recalls the horror films of the seventies of many other producers to create the various sequels and spin offs such as: “The Conjuring – The Enfild Case” and the Annabelle Trilogy. It is a supernatural horror based on true events on one of the most famous cases of Ed and Lorraine Warren played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.
PLOT
The Perron family in 1971, Carolyn and Roger, move into an old farmhouse together with their five daughters: Andrea, Nancy, Christine, Cindy and April. After a while in the house they begin to hear various noises up to the continuous torment. No longer able to continue living in that state, the two spouses decide to turn to various mediums including Ed and Lorraine Warren
MAIN CHARACTERS:
Ed and Lorrain Warren/Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson: They are two demonologists esteemed by the Vatican, in the course of their lives they held courses on their investigations and discoveries, they are very often singled out as charlatans, but the trust in their work and the constant desire to helping others will never make them give up
The Perron Family: Made up of Carolyne and Roger Perron and their five daughters. Ready to live a new life, they move to this farmhouse, the couple think they can live a carefree life with their family, but their serenity seems to end soon
PRODUCTION
Conception and screenplay
The plot was also known with the title “The Warren file” inspired by the investigations of Ed and Lorraine Warren, in fact the idea for this film came from Ed Warren himself about twenty years before the production of the film began. After reviewing the Warrens’ early recordings, DeRosa-Grund made an initial draft of a screenplay and called it “The Cojuring.” Initially he could not find an interested production company, but they were finally purchased by Summit Entertainment which was satisfied with the screenplay that in June 2011 New Line Cinema confirmed that it wanted to produce the film which gave the project to James Wang.
The original screenplay expected it to be written from Perron’s point of view, while brothers Chad and Carey Hayes chose the one that saw it from the point of view of all the protagonists: The Perron family, the Warren spouses and the “demon family”. The central theme is faith and how it can bring relief when one may be afraid of darkness and with the message that “God always prevails over evil”
Direction
James Wan wanted to go back to work with a large studio because he was fascinated by the story and had heard stories about the Warrens before, so he decided to stay as true to the story as told by the Warrens as possible even though he made some changes. Before filming, the director also arranged a meeting with Lorraine Warren, but he refused to visit the house of the events narrated as James Wang tended to believe in these paranormal stories.
James Wan’s direction makes use of sliding shots and abrupt scene changes, where shots of the interiors and exteriors of the protagonists’ house with a series of zooms are characteristic. In the scenes where a ghost is filmed, the actor’s gaze and frightened expression is filmed, this visibility becomes more frightening and distressing according to the director
CAST
Vera Farmiga/Lorraine Warren: The actress admitted that she was very impressed by the experience, often waking up at 3:07 in the morning, even after production on the film wrapped. Before filming Vera Farmiga spent time with her Lorraine on her estate in Conneticut, the actress was very fascinated by the bond that existed between the Warren spouses and which was later created with the Perron family
Parick Wilson/Ed Warren: The actor said that he and Farmiga tried to play the couple as best they could so they didn’t come across as corny. Patrck Wilson defined himself with an open mind stating that he believed in the story told that he really believed in the good faith of the Warrens who really tried to help others
Lily Taylor/Carolyn Perron: the actress was very skeptical of ghost stories while admitting that she has occasionally experienced such exprienze narrated in the film. She the actress she said that she was a lover of the horror genre like “The Exorcist and Rosemary’s Baby” and she seconded Lili Taylor; James Wan is very reminiscent of “The Arm of the Law and The Exorcist”
Ron Livingston/Roger Perron: He too appreciates Wan as he gave space to the various interpretations and also to shoot the various scenes in a chronological way and finally he praised the scenography a lot which explained how according to him the house becomes a “character” in its own right
Filming
During filming both the Warren and Roger Perron spouses visited the filming location, while her wife preferred to stay away from the place of those events. Some members when they visited the house were overwhelmed by a mysterious movement of air that even Carolyn said he fell and broke his hip and shortly after in the hotel where the cast was staying, he was evacuated due to a fire
Scenography
The scenography is curated by Julie Berghoff who, after having examined many farmhouses, decided to build a haunted house from scratch, so she builds a house of 500 square meters on two floors with a surrounding landscape of a real house for which the director of photography builds a 360° cyclorama. Most of the locations were visited in pre-production times including the current home of the Perron family.
It was avoided to paint the plaster walls and to remain faithful to the typical interiors of the house it was built like the classic closets of the houses on the east coast of the United States, furnishing it with small furnishings following a rudimentary style with wood and stone cladding. The tree outside the house was also built by the crew: it was represented as a 150-year-old Pacan tree as if to represent the curse in which it lies.
The Annabelle doll for the first time was designed by Tony Rosen which was very close to the real one and her dress designed by Kristin M. Burke as desired by the director and even if she is not involved in that film in the first place she was linked to some cases Warren, the real common version was a Raggedy Ann doll

Director John R. Leonetti explains that for the lighting he used a palette of natural base colors, while for the cellar they used a 250 watt lamp as well as matches and also features the use of a zoom to create suspense typical of the 1960s 70. In reality, the Warrens shot their films in 8 mm while the director made the characters use a 16 mm to be better projected in the spaces

STORIA
I fatti si svolgono in casa di Peggy Hodgson, una donna divorziata con i suoi quattro figli: Margareth; Janet, Johnny e Billie. I fenomeni maggiormente si manifestarono intorno alla piccola Janet quando aveva 11 anni.
I fatti cominciarono quando Janet cominciò a dire a sua madre che sobbalzava sul letto, ma la madre pensava fosse uno scherzo non diede peso alla cosa. La notte successiva si ripeté la stessa cosa, ma lei li invitò a on giocare più di notte, ma quando dopo aver spento la luce cominciò a sentire anche lei dei strani rumori descritti come dei passi. Dopo di che cominciarono a sentire dei colpi violenti sulle pareti come un incessante bussare. Cosi chiese riparo al vicino, Vic Nottighan un muratore che si recò in casa loro per assicurarsi che non ci fossero dei ladri, ma dopo questo venne chiamata la polizia di cui uno degli agenti Carolyn Heeps affermò che vide una sedia muoversi da sola e inoltre entrambi i poliziotti udirono dei rumori nelle pareti, nei giorni seguenti Peggy si rivolse ai preti, medium e persino alla stampa, due giornalisti in particolare del Daily Mirror il report Duglus Bence e il fotografo Graham Morris che durante uno delle loro visite non successe nulla, ma quando lasciarono la casa i rumori ripresero cosi Graham rientrò subito e vide dei mattoncini di lego fluttuare nell’aria
LE INDAGINI DI “MAURICE GROSS”
Fu proprio la “Society for Phychical Research” ad affidare il caso a Maurice Grosse e dopo una settimana lo raggiunse Guy Playfair e dopo pochi giorni di permanenza confermarono che piccoli oggetti come lego, delle biglie cominciarono a levitare e inoltre notarono che non ribalzavano una volta a terra. Poi cominciarono a registrare dei colpi nelle pareti fino ad arrivare a vedere divani che levitavano.

IL POLTERGEIST CHE PARLA
Tutti gli incidenti i fenomeni ti accadevano intorno alla piccola Janet infatti una grande forza sembrava strapparle le lenzuola e cuscini, alcuni testimoni affermarono di averla vista levitare attraverso filmati e fotografie seppur molto discusse. In seguito cominciò anche ad emettere dei suoni strani dalla bocca, cosa che capirono cosa che se anche e avesse avuto la gola infiammata per il mal di gola non sarebbe riuscita a parlare in quel modo. Questa voce diceva di chiamarsi Bill e sosteneva di saper leggere nel pensiero e poi affermò di essere un fantasma e di essere morto in una sedia nell’angolo al piano di sotto a causa di emorragia. Alcuni giorni dopo Maurice G. fu contattata da Terry Wilkins, il padre di Bill e confermò che la voce ascoltata e le circostanze della morte erano esattamente quelle che aveva descritto

I Warren
Nel corso di questo caso vennero interpellati molti medium fra cui i coniugi Warren che confermarono la veridicità degli argomenti e a differenza degli altri loro si trattennero un solo giorno nella casa dei Hodgson e dichiararono di aver visto Janet e Margareth levitare, mentre Lorraine ha confermato di aver visto Janet sparire e comparire in una scatola di fusibili di grande dimensioni in una posa innaturale e contorta. I coniugi Warren tentarono di riprodurre la stessa posizione assunta da Janet, ma non ci riuscirono
CRITICA E SCETTICISMO
Alcuni visitatori della casa di Enfild misero in dubbio la sua veridicità degli eventi e una di questi fra loro era la studiosa Anita Gregory della SPR che aveva descritto le prove come: discutibili, esagerate e patetiche. A sua volta infatti come controprova una Anita forni un video dove si vedeva chiaramente Janet piegare un cucchiaio, saltare giù dal letto e agitare le braccia. Ora Janet è madre di 3 figli e afferma che c’erano momenti che si manifestavano i fenomeni e momenti di tregua per non deludere i presenti che sapevano che aveva simulato alcuni eventi
EPILOGO
Il 5 Luglio 1978 Janet venne ricoverata in un ospedale psichiatrico e in sua assenza i fenomeni si attenuarono, ma non del tutto e al suo rientro ricominciarono di nuovo con la stessa violenza tanto da richiamare un medium Dono Gmelig-Meyling che riporterà la situazione più o meno alla normalità.
Però a svanire è il clamore mediatico, ma non le manifestazioni o le sfide per la famiglia Dogson infatti da quel momento in poi il fratello minore di Janet muore di cancro a soli 14 anni e Peggy e il suo ultimogenito Billy rimasero a Enfild per oltre due decadi ed è li che ricominciarono le manifestazioni, infine Peggy morì di cancro al seno nel 2003.
In seguito Janet se ne andò di casa a soli 16 anni e si sposò molto giovane, ora ha 46 anni, ma purtroppo ha un enorme trauma alle spalle: ha perso un figlio di 18 anni morto durante il sonno
LA CASA DOPO GLI EVENTI
Dopo la morte di Peggy, Clare Bennet e i suoi quattro figli si trasferirono in quella casa visto che sono passati venticinque anni dall’attenzione mediatica, ma dopo qualche tempo ricominciarono a sentire di nuovo i rumori, cosi Clare scopri che quegli eventi accadevano anni prima e preoccupata per i figli, lei e suoi lasciarono la casa, al giorno d’oggi ci vive un’altra famiglia che ci tiene a stare lontana dai riflettori

HISTORY
The events take place in the home of Peggy Hodgson, a divorced woman with her four children: Margareth; Janet, Johnny and Billie. The phenomena most manifested themselves around little Janet when she was 11 years old.
Things started when Janet started telling her mother that she bounced on her bed, but her mother thought it was a joke she ignored it. The next night the same thing was repeated, but she invited them not to play anymore at night, but when after turning off the light she too began to hear strange noises described as footsteps. After that they began to hear violent banging on the walls like incessant knocking. So he asked for shelter from his neighbor, Vic Nottinghan a bricklayer who went to their house to make sure there were no thieves, but after this the police were called of which one of the officers Carolyn Heeps stated that he saw a chair move by itself and also both the policemen heard noises in the walls, in the following days Peggy addressed the priests, mediums and even the press, two journalists in particular from the Daily Mirror the report Duglus Bence and the photographer Graham Morris who during one of their visits nothing happened, but when they left the house the noises resumed so Graham immediately went back and saw some lego bricks floating in the air
THE INVESTIGATIONS OF “MAURICE GROSS”
It was the “Society for Phychical Research” who entrusted the case to Maurice Grosse and after a week Guy Playfair joined him and after a few days of stay they confirmed that small objects such as lego, marbles began to levitate and also noticed that they did not bounce once to the ground. Then they began to register knocks in the walls until they saw sofas levitating.
THE POLTERGEIST THAT SPEAKS
All the incidents and phenomena happened around little Janet, in fact a great force of hers seemed to tear her sheets and pillows, some witnesses claimed to have seen her levitate through films and photographs, albeit much discussed. She later also began to make strange sounds from her mouth which they realized what if she too and her throat was sore from the sore throat she would not be able to speak like that. This voice said his name was Bill and claimed he could read her mind and then she claimed to be a ghost and died in a chair in the downstairs corner of a hemorrhage. A few days later Maurice G. was contacted by Terry Wilkins, Bill’s father and confirmed that the voice heard and the circumstances of the death were exactly what he had described
The Warrens
In the course of this case, many mediums were consulted, including Mr and Mrs Warren who confirmed the veracity of the arguments and unlike the others, they stayed only one day in the Hodgson house and claimed to have seen Janet and Margareth levitate, while Lorraine confirmed that she had saw Janet disappear and appear in an oversized fuse box in an unnatural, contorted pose. The Warrens tried to reproduce the same position assumed by Janet, but they failed
CRITICISM AND SKEPTICISM
Some visitors to the Enfild home questioned his veracity of the events and one of them was SPR scholar Anita Gregory who described the evidence as questionable, exaggerated and pathetic. In her turn, in fact, as a counter-proof of her, Anita provided a video where Janet was clearly seen bending a spoon, jumping out of bed and waving her arms. Now Janet is the mother of 3 children and she says that there were moments when the phenomena manifested themselves and moments of respite so as not to disappoint those present who knew that she had simulated some events
EPILOGUE
On July 5, 1978 Janet was hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital and in her absence the phenomena subsided, but not completely and on her return they started again with the same violence so as to call a medium Dono Gmelig-Meyling who will report the situation more or less than normal.
However, the media clamor fades away, but not the demonstrations or challenges for the Dogson family in fact from that moment on Janet’s younger brother dies of cancer at the age of 14 and Peggy and her youngest son Billy remained in Enfild for over two decades and that’s when the demonstrations started again, finally Peggy died of breast cancer in 2003.
Later Janet left home at only 16 and she married very young, she is now 46, but unfortunately she has a huge trauma behind her: she lost an 18 year old son who died in his sleep
THE HOUSE AFTER THE EVENTS
After Peggy’s death, Clare Bennet and her four children moved into that house since twenty-five years have passed since the media attention, but after some time they began to hear noises again, so Clare discovered that those events happened years before and worried about the children, she and hers left the house, nowadays another family lives there who wants us to stay away from the spotlight

LA FAMIGLIA PERRON:
La famiglia Perron era composta da Carolyne e Roger Perron e cinque figlie Andrea, Nancy, Christine, Cindy e April e all’inizio degli anni ’70 si trasferiscono in una tenuta che si trova in centro alla città di Harrisville, i fenomeni paranormali cominciarono proprio quando la famiglia arrivò e cominciando a trovare oggetti spostati, porte che si aprivano e chiudevano da sole e la sensazione di avere qualche presenza in casa, ma la situazione ben presto precipitò notevolmente quando le presenze nella casa cominciarono a perseguitare la famiglia specialmente le figlie che cominciarono a sentirsi tirare i piedi di notte.
L’intervento dei Warren
I coniugi Warren cominciarono ad indagare iniziando da una seduta spiritica che ovviamente confermò che la casa fosse infestata principalmente da una donna di nome Bathsheba Sherman che era nota come strega e adoratrice del diavolo per poi sacrificare suo figlio a Lucifero e impiccarsi ad un albero della tenuta.
La situazione da qui in poi precipita e coniugi Warren che cominciarono le ricerche sulla casa, dalla storia emersero che in quella tenuta ci furono due suicidi per impiccagione, uno per avvelenamento, due annegamenti e quattro donne morte congelate.
Lorraine affermò che la strega voleva possedere Caroline Perron perchè in un giornale del 1977 si leggeva che si era svegliata e si era trovata un apparizione che raffigurava una vecchia donna cosi chiamarono l’aiuto di un prete che decise di fare benedire la casa e di fare un esorcismo a Carolyn Perron e durante questo si spaventarono e invitarono i Warren a uscire di casa
LA FAMIGLIA SNEDEKER
Questo caso risale al 1986 e gli Snedeker si trasferiscono nel Connecticut a Southington nei pressi del “Uconn Health Center” dove il figlio di Carmen era in cura per il cancro chiamato il Linfoma di Hodgkin. A trasferirsi in quella casa sono Carmen e i suoi tre figli maschi una femmina e tre nipoti, la famiglia era contenta della nuova casa se non era per un dettaglio che in quella casa i cadaveri venivano preparati per i loro funerali e trovarono molte foto post-morten
Eventi paranormali
Il figlio maggiore Philip insieme al fratello Bradley cominciarono a vedere delle strane presenze, che in principio li attribuivano agli effetti collaterali che gli davano i medicinali, ma al più presto Philip divenne violento e aggressivo tanto che un giorno andò dai vicini a chiedergli una pistola perchè voleva uccidere il suo patrigno mentre la nipote di 17 anni si sentiva afferrare i piedi di notte, poi continuarono i rumori nella notte e anche un tentativo di abuso sessuale nei confronti della madre di famiglia
L’intervento dei Warren
Quando entrarono i Warren, con l’aiuto di un esorcista capirono subito che in quella casa vennero praticati riti satanici e sedute spiritiche, con questo caso i coniugi Warren ottennero l’attenzione dei media dove dichiararono:
- Apparivano spesso due figure una alta e una magra con capelli lunghi e neri con gli degli occhiali tondi piccoli e un capello a cilindro, la seconda aveva capelli neri e corti con uno smoking gessato e degli occhi azzurri
- L’acqua dei tubi divenne rossa
- Durante l’esorcismo i demoni erano molto potenti
- Le luci si spegnevano e accedevano in continuazione
- La tenda della doccia s’appiccicò addosso a Carmen tanto da non farla respirare

LA FAMIGLIA SMURL
Questi accadimenti sono accaduti a Jack e Janet Smurl e di un demone che infestò la loro casa. La storia inizia nel 1972 e in quell’anno gli Smurl sono costretti a lasciare la loro casa a causa dell’uragano Agnese che colpi la Pensylvania e nel 1973 John e Mary Smurl (genitori di Jack) acquistarono una casa a West Pittston, un abitazione duplex dove i genitori vivevano nella parte destra della casa, mentre Jack e la moglie e le due figlie in quella di sinistra.
La famiglia di impiegò 18 mesi per ristrutturarla renderla gradevole, ma dopo poco tempo la ristrutturazione non esitarono a manifestarsi dei fenomeni paranormali
Eventi paranormali
1974: Una macchia comparve sulla moquette, il televisore esplose e iniziò a fuoriscire dell’acqua in alcuni luoghi della casa e comparirono profondi graffi
1975: La figlia maggiore degli Smurl vide delle apparizioni vicino al letto senza darsi una spiegazione
1977: Gli Smurl capivano subito che la loro casa era infestata e cominciarono a sentire anche un odore di acido
Ma nonostante questi terribili avvenimenti la famiglia Smurl andò avanti normalmente e cosi nacquero le due gemelle Shannon e Carin, ma nel 1985 la situazione precipitò: la temperatura in casa era sempre molto bassa, sentirono delle voci e scorsero anche un’ombra umana che attraversò la cucina. Da quel momento l’attività spiritica aumentò sia di frequenza che d’intensità tanto che il lampadario che cadde in testa a Shannon; Janet e Jack iniziarono a levitare
L’intervento dei Warren
Infine nel 1986 la famiglia chiese aiuto ai coniugi Warren che si presentarono insieme all’infermiera Rosemary Frueh che aveva dei poteri psichici e dopo due mesi d’indagini i Warren capirono che la casa era posseduta da un demone che in seguito lo chiamarono “Il Demone di Casa Smurl”,secondo la famiglia il demone li avrebbe seguiti in viaggio al campeggio sul fiume Poconos.
La medium Mary Alice Rinkman esaminò la casa e scorse ben 4 presenze: lo spirito di una donna di nome Abigail, un uomo che aveva ucciso la moglie e una terza persona che non rusci capire chi fosse e dopo di che gli Smurl continuarono con gli esorcismi, ma nel 1987 si trasferitono a Wilkes Barres.
IL LUPO MANNARO DEMONIACO A LONDRA
Il più strano caso dei Warren fu il “Il Lupo Mannaro” che era concentrato sull’esorcismo di uomo Bill Ramesey, posseduto da un “demone licantropo”.
Aveva sostenuto che aveva incontrato quest’entità quado aveva nove anni per poi tornare a perseguitarlo in età adulta, la prima volta accadde quando era piccolo, si vide nelle vesti di un lupo e aveva avuto degli episodi violenti, sentiva degli odori sgradevoli e da quel momento in poi non fu più menzionato, ma nel 1983 Bill sentii un forte dolore al petto e cominciò a sudare e la vicenda s’aggravò tanto che Bill venne ricoverato in ospedale psichiatrico e coinciò a ringhiare alle infermiere.
Infine i Warren fecero l’esorcismo in un chiesa e da allora l’entità venne bandita e da allora non ci furono più episodi di quel genere.
CODY E L’UOMO
Cody è un bambino di sei anni e comincia a vedere una presenza che lui chiama l’Uomo, poco a poco il bambino diventa aggressivo perchè “l’uomo” gli dice di non fidarsi della sua famiglia, intanto in casa i rubinetti che s’aprivano da soli e porte che si chiudevano da sole.
Poco dopo i genitori di Cody chiesero aiuto ai Warren che dopo una sorte di cerimonia, che equivaleva ad un esorcismo, Cody fu liberato da questa presenza e oggi Cody sta bene e non ricorda nulla

Ed & Lorrain Warren are two US paranormal investigators, Ed was a self-taught demonologist and lecturer, while Lorraine professed herself as a clairvoyant and worked with her husband. In 1952 they founded the “New England Society for Psychic Research”, the oldest group of ghost hunters. THE PERRON FAMILY:
The Perron family consisted of Carolyne and Roger Perron and five daughters Andrea, Nancy, Christine, Cindy and April and in the early 70s they moved to an estate located in the center of the city of Harrisville, paranormal phenomena began right when the family arrived and starting to find objects moved, doors opening and closing by themselves and the feeling of having some presence in the house, but the situation soon escalated considerably as the presences in the house began to haunt the family especially the daughters who they began to feel their feet tugging at night.
The intervention of the Warrens
The Warren spouses began to investigate starting from a séance which obviously confirmed that the house was mainly haunted by a woman named Bathsheba Sherman who was known as a witch and devil worshiper to then sacrifice her son to Lucifer and hang herself from a tree on the estate .
From here on, the situation precipitated and the Warren spouses who began research on the house, from the story it emerged that in that estate there were two suicides by hanging, one by poisoning, two drownings and four women who froze to death.
Lorraine claimed that the witch wanted to possess Caroline Perron because in a 1977 newspaper it was read that she woke up and found an apparition depicting an old woman so they called for the help of a priest who decided to have the house blessed and to make an exorcism on Carolyn Perron and during this they became frightened and urged the Warrens to leave the house
THE SNEDEKER FAMILY
This case dates back to 1986 and the Snedekers moved to Connecticut in Southington near the “Uconn Health Center” where Carmen’s son was being treated for cancer called Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The eldest son Philip together with his brother Bradley began to see strange presences, which at first attributed them to the side effects that the medicines gave him, but as soon as possible Philip became violent and aggressive so much that one day he went to the neighbors to ask him for a gun because wanted to kill his stepfather while his 17-year-old niece had her feet grabbed at night, then the noises continued in the night and also an attempted sexual abuse against the mother of the family
The intervention of the Warrens
When the Warrens entered, with the help of an exorcist they immediately understood that satanic rites and séances were practiced in that house, with this case the Warrens got the attention of the media where they declared:
- Two figures often appeared, one tall and one thin with long black hair with small round glasses and a top hat, the second had short black hair with a pinstriped tuxedo and blue eyes
- The water from the pipes turned red
- During the exorcism the demons were very powerful
- The lights kept going off and on
- The shower curtain stuck to Carmen so much she couldn’t breathe
Philip Snedeker died at the age of 38 as a result of his illness
THE SMURL FAMILY
These incidents happened to Jack and Janet Smurl and a demon that haunted their home. The story begins in 1972 and in that year the Smurls are forced to leave their home due to hurricane Agnes which hit Pennsylvania and in 1973 John and Mary Smurl (parents of Jack) bought a house in West Pittston, a duplex where the parents lived on the right side of the house, while Jack and his wife and two daughters lived on the left.
It took the family 18 months to renovate it and make it pleasant, but after a short time the renovation did not hesitate to manifest paranormal phenomena
Paranormal events
1974: A stain appeared on the carpet, the television exploded and water began to leak in some places in the house and deep scratches appeared
1975: The Smurls’ eldest daughter saw apparitions near her bed without giving herself an explanation
1977: The Smurls knew their house was haunted and began to smell acid too
But despite these terrible events the Smurl family went on normally and thus the twins Shannon and Carin were born, but in 1985 the situation precipitated: the temperature in the house was always very low, they heard voices and also saw a human shadow that crossed the kitchen. From that moment the spirit activity increased both in frequency and intensity so much that the chandelier that fell on Shannon’s head; Janet and Jack began to levitate

Finally in 1986 the family asked the Warrens for help who showed up together with the nurse Rosemary Frueh who had psychic powers and after two months of investigation the Warrens understood that the house was possessed by a demon who later called him “The Demon of House Smurl,” according to the family, the demon would have followed them on a trip to the campsite on the Poconos River.
The medium Mary Alice Rinkman examined the house and saw 4 presences: the spirit of a woman named Abigail, a man who had killed his wife and a third person who could not figure out who it was and after which the Smurls continued with the exorcisms , but in 1987 they moved to Wilkes Barres.
THE DEMONIAC WEREWOLF IN LONDON
The Warrens’ strangest case was “The Werewolf” which focused on the exorcism of a man Bill Ramesey, possessed by a “werewolf demon.”
He had claimed that he had met this entity when he was nine years old to then come back to haunt him in adulthood, the first time it happened when he was little, he saw himself in the guise of a wolf and had had violent episodes, he felt unpleasant smells and from that it was never mentioned again but in 1983 Bill felt a sharp pain in his chest and started sweating and it got so bad that Bill was checked into a psychiatric hospital and started growling at the nurses.
Finally the Warrens performed the exorcism in a church and since then the entity has been banned and since then there have been no more episodes of that kind.
